The Bank of America Faculty Award is given annually by the College of Business Administration at May commencement to a faculty member who has demonstrated exemplary leadership abilities. This award represents one of the top leadership awards in the college.
This year’s recipient is Lane Morris, associate professor of management.
Lane Morris has demonstrated outstanding skills in developing student leaders; leadership in activities outside the classroom pertaining to curriculum innovation and development; leadership in academic and professional organizations; and leadership including within the University of Tennessee, the community, and charitable organizations.
So much of what Morris does within the college is focused on developing the leadership skills of others. He has distinguished himself as an executive coach in the Leadership Development Programs of all four of the college’s executive-level MBA programs in which he mentors 30 or more students annually; he serves as a core faculty member in two of those programs. He teaches business foundations in the college’s Global Leadership Scholars undergraduate honors program and recently was appointed its director. He has served as graduate program director for the college’s Ph.D. program in human resource development (HRD) and has assumed leadership responsibility for all three HRD degree levels offered by the college: undergraduate, master’s, and doctoral.
Morris has an active research agenda that focuses on work-life integration and, more specifically, on the interface of work and family. He serves on three academic editorial review boards and served as a guest editor for a special publication focusing on work-life integration in individuals, organizations, and communities.
Morris has served in numerous capacities in the Academy of Human Resource Development, including conference program chair and proceedings editor, and recently completed a two-year term as its national president. He frequently gives invited talks to civic, religious, and corporate organizations.
A Reagan Faculty Scholar this past academic year, Morris is a 1992 doctoral graduate of the University of Tennessee.
